What are the indications for deferoxamine (iron chelating agent)?


  • serum iron > 450 - 500 mcg/dL

  • clinical signs of significant iron intoxication (shock, acidosis, severe gastroenteritis, numerous radiopaque tablets visible in the GI tract by x-ray)
